Buzzi-Unicem
Festus, MO

Italian cement maker Buzzi Unicem is engaging PayneCrest to install power, process controls and fiber communications at its new cement plant near Festus, MO.  When completed in June 2009, the plant will produce 7,000 metric tons of clinker, or powdered cement, daily.  In one of its largest engineering assignments ever, PayneCrest is tasked with providing 13.8 kilovolts of power to the 2,000-acre site.  The plant includes storage domes, additive silos, three 1,300-foot conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, a grinding mill and a 400-foot-tall preheat tower and kiln that will ultimately produce clinker in half-inch balls to be ground into cement.  The project is requiring PayneCrest to develop up to 3,000 schematics, connection diagrams and layouts from more than 30,000 reference drawings and documents.  The team anticipates creating 250,000 cable and wire labels, installing more than 8,000 feet of cable tray adn taking approximately 10,000 documentary photos of equipment.  To date, the project has generated 70,000 engineering man hours - a tally projected to rise to 130,000 man hours by completion.
